Every athlete thinks they're fast.
Most parents think their kid is getting better.
The stopwatch doesn't care what anyone thinks.
That's not a knock on athletes or parents. It's just the reality of training without data. When you don't have numbers, everything is a feeling. And feelings are not a training plan.
I've seen this play out more times than I can count.
An athlete comes in for a retest. They've been training hard. Showing up consistently. Putting in the work.
But somewhere along the way they convinced themselves nothing was happening. Their times feel the same. They don't feel faster. They figure they've plateaued.
Then we run the numbers.
Their 40-yard dash is down. Their vertical is up. Their pro agility is sharper. Across the board, the metrics moved in the right direction.
They just couldn't see it without the data.
That's one of the most rewarding moments in this job. Showing an athlete proof that what they've been doing is working. Not a feeling. Not an opinion. Numbers.
That data also tells us what to build on next. Where to push harder. Where there's still room to grow. Without the test, we're guessing. With it, we have a roadmap.
This one is harder. But it's just as important.
An athlete comes in and they feel great. They feel faster. They feel stronger. They're confident going into the retest.
And then the numbers don't move the way they expected.
That's not a failure. That's information.
It tells me the training needs to change. Maybe we need to shift the focus. Maybe the program needs to be adjusted. Maybe there's something in how they're recovering or what they're eating that's holding them back.
Without the test, that athlete would have kept training the same way and kept getting the same result. The retest is what catches it before an entire season goes by.
This is why we test. Not to make athletes feel good or bad about where they are. To give them and their coaches accurate information so every decision we make going forward is based on reality.
Every athlete who goes through our evaluation gets tested on 7 performance markers:
Every result goes into TrainHeroic, their personal training app. We retest every 12 weeks so progress is always tracked and visible.
A lot of athletes train hard all summer and then stop when fall practice starts.
By November they've lost most of what they built.
Knowing your numbers gives you a reason to keep going. You have a baseline. You have something to protect and something to build toward. Athletes who understand their metrics train with more purpose. They know what they're working on and why.
They also know that practice alone won't maintain their strength and power. That takes a dedicated training program running alongside the season.
The evaluation is where that all starts.
We are running a free combine at Well Street Fitness this Saturday.
Every athlete who comes in will be tested on all 7 markers. You will walk away with your numbers, a clear picture of where you stand athletically, and a baseline you can actually train toward.
No experience required. No commitment. Just show up and get tested.
